Britz recommends that when you are travelling you stay in
Department of Conservation camping grounds or other
designated areas. Here is some info on where to stay while you are Britzing it in New Zealand.
You can pre-book your holiday park sites today. We recommend you book your first and last night stay and especially over the peak season of Christmas – end February.
Our booking service allows you to book one or several holiday parks under one transaction. Alternatively, you can book open dated vouchers.

What does ‘self-contained’ mean?
The vehicle meets the ablutionary and sanitary needs of the occupants of the motorhome for a minimum of three days without requiring any external services for discharging any waste. Basically your campervan has fresh water, a toilet and waste tanks, therefore providing more options about where you can freedom camp.
Department Of Conservation (DOC)
The Department of Conservation manages over 250 camping areas on conservation land in New Zealand. You can find out more about the locations, facilities, bookings and fees
visit the website for more information.
Britz recommends that you stay at a Qualmark rated holiday park.
At Britz, we only recommend the best, and when it comes to campgrounds in NZ, you can't go past
New Zealand Top 10 Holiday Parks.
Whether you want to stay near beach, thermal springs, national parks or rivers and lakes, you will find a Top 10 nearby. Take advantage of the large, grassy powered sites for campervans and tents and just relax in your Britz.
The kids will love the indoor/outdoor playgrounds, game rooms and swimming pools, and you will love the spa pools, barbeques and tennis courts.
Powered sites, for motorhomes and campervans with 240V mains power facilities, range in price from NZ$30 - NZ$40* per night.
*Prices are indicative only and subject to change.
Things to do before leaving a campground:
- Check you have unplugged your power
- Turn your gas off both inside the vehicle and at the gas bottle
- Close all the vents in the roof
- Turn the water pump off
- Make sure your electric step (in some vehicles) is retracted
- Make sure all your cupboards are all closed securely
- Have a look around the inside of the vehicle, is there anything that could fall off a bench or table?
We recommend booking a Local Stays membership for $59, which provides access to a network of more than a hundred places throughout New Zealand where you can stay overnight in your Britz Certified Self Contained Campervan.
Once you become a member for $59 per year, you can stay at local boutique businesses including restaurants, wineries, olive groves, boutique breweries, farms. The idea is to meet the locals, try their products, purchase some of their delicious products or have a meal – and in return stay with them overnight at no extra charge!
With Local Stays – you will:
Connect: Get off the tourist trail and avoid the crowds. Connect with local artisans and gourmet producers. Meet real kiwis.
Stay: Park overnight with welcoming Kiwi hosts in safe, quiet, friendly surroundings – all as part of your membership!
Experience: Taste fresh, locally grown product, purchase world-famous wines, oils and gourmet condiments, visit lesser-known sights and experiences.
There are districts in New Zealand that do not permit you to freedom camp. These areas may or may not be clearly sign posted. We recommend that you assume nothing and always check with a local first. The Visitor Information Centres or ‘iSites’ will always be able to advise you.
