The Dubliner, Methven
Did you have a favourite Holiday Park you stayed in and why?
Methven Camping Grounds - very friendly operator helped us with setting up our campervan for the night. We would have been so stuck without him!
What would be your top tip for other campervan travellers
For less stress and hassle, go for the All Inclusive Pack, and Express Return Pack!
Can you share a recipe from something you cooked in the campervan?
Not really a recipe, but ready mix pancakes. Less time cooking, more time exploring!
What is your greatest memory of the whole campervan holiday?
Waking up to awesome views, and not freezing while doing it!
Day One Christchurch to Methven
Distance: 80km Driving time: 1.5 hours
Stargazing with the Britz Campervan
Packed our Britz Frontier Campervan and hit the road in the evening. On arriving in Methven, we checked in at Methven Camping Ground, who were very helpful in helping us get set up for the night. Had a couple of stouts and an amazing dinner at The Dubliner - the dry rubbed baby back ribs with spiced orange glaze was seriously good!
Day Two Methven To Lake Heron
Distance: 72 km Driving time: 1.5 hours
Mt Hutt Summit looking over Rakaia River
Woke up early morning and caught the Methven Travel Ski Bus to Mt Hutt. Was our first ski of the season, and had an epic day. Lunch at Huber’s Hut was great - try the Mulled Ginger Beer. On returning to Methven, we met up with the rest of the group, and just had to go back to The Dubliner for more! After that, we made our way to Lake Heron.
Day Three Lake Heron to Christchurch
Distance: 152km Driving time: 2.5 hours
We were hoping to get great photos at the lake, however, the weather had different plans. So we retreated to the campervan for some ready mix pancakes cooked in the really well-equipped kitchen. We then hit the road again to Terrace Downs for Clay Bird Shooting. Heaps of fun shooting clays, and Neil was such a great coach! After Terrace Downs, it was time to head home to Christchurch.
