To help you create the ultimate road trip itinerary planner, let’s take a deeper dive into some of the must-do activities around each of our branch locations.

Have an adventure in Auckland

The North Island city of Auckland is the perfect starting point for a New Zealand road trip. With its sparkling harbour, lush native bushwalks, and vibrant city scene, this thriving metropolis really does have it all. With your Britz campervan, you can seamlessly transition from city adventures to outdoor escapades.

If you’re in Auckland during summer, head down to the open-air cinema in Silo Park or enjoy some live music in Aotea Square. Browse through the cool labels and designer brands at some of the city’s fashion hot spots. And with seven Night Markets throughout Auckland, there’s ample opportunity to sample some tasty ethnic cuisines.

Keen to get back to nature? Auckland is dotted with beaches, bushwalks, and quiet parks. You can be exploring a remote windswept beach in the morning, walking amongst birdsong and native bush at midday, and hiking on a volcanic island in the afternoon.

Looking to indulge in some adventure? Here’s your chance. Take a leap from the Auckland Harbour Bridge on the end of a Bungy rope! For something a little different, try rainforest canyoning over the majestic Kitekite Falls.

Auckland is also nice and handy to many of the North Island’s bucket list destinations. Tick off Waitomo Caves, Hobbiton, and Cathedral Cove on an awesome 7-day road trip from Auckland to Waitomo. Enjoy a winter escape with a 5-day road trip from Auckland to Taupo where you can hit the ski fields, indulge in tasty prawns, and have some quality family time.

Christchurch

As the largest city in the South Island, Christchurch combines urban charm with stunning landscapes. Our Christchurch branch provides a gateway to the breathtaking Southern Alps, serene lakes, and picturesque villages.

Christchurch is the perfect city to explore by campervan. It’s nice and flat and easy to navigate thanks to its grid-like layout. There are also plenty of options to park up your campervan and explore further by tram, gondola, or bike hire

If you’re exploring Christchurch as a family, you’ll find loads of awesome activities to keep everyone busy. Plan a day at Christchurch Adventure Park where you can try mountain biking and ziplining. Chill out at the International Antarctic Centre while you meet little blue penguins or explore the Storm Dome.

Christchurch has a fascinating history too, and you can learn all about it at the Canterbury Museum. It’s right next door to the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, the perfect spot for a picnic lunch after your museum visit.

Once you’ve explored the city, there are loads of next-level destinations waiting within a short drive. Head northward and plan a whale-watching excursion in Kaikoura. Continue on to Blenheim where you can sample some of the South Island’s famously good wines. If you’re travelling in winter and need to warm up, take the two-hour drive to Hanmer Springs and soak away the day in the hot pools.

Don't miss the opportunity to explore Arthur's Pass National Park. Located midway between Christchurch and Greymouth, this unique destination is backdropped by an awe-inspiring landscape of steep gorges, braided blue rivers, and the snow-capped mountain of the Southern Alps.

Queenstown

Whether you’re a thrill-seeker, a foodie, or a family in search of fun, Queenstown is a must-visit destination.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of Lake Wakatipu and surrounded by mountains, our Queenstown branch is the perfect jumping-off point for the ultimate New Zealand road trip.

Keen on trying out some of New Zealand’s adrenaline-pumping activities? It’s all on offer in Queenstown. In fact, this tourist hotspot is known as New Zealand’s ‘adventure capital!’ From jet boating to Bungy jumping, luge riding or canyon swinging. Pick your adventure and let the fun begin!

If you’ve got kids in tow, treat them to an unforgettable day of adventure on the Skyline Gondola. Take in the spectacular scenery as you climb 480 metres above Queenstown in the steepest cable car lift in the Southern Hemisphere. At the top, hit the track on the luge, enjoy a buffet lunch, or take a guided walk.

Keen to explore further afield? You’d be kicking yourself if you didn’t! Some of New Zealand’s star attractions are within a few hours’ drive of Queenstown. One of the shortest drives is to the tiny gold-mining township of Arrowtown. This charming spot is renowned for its pretty tree-lined streets, quaint cottages, and eclectic shopping. During winter, the town takes on a whole new charm as the surrounding mountain scenery is dusted in snow.

A little further afield is Wānaka, another of New Zealand’s scenic treasures. Explore some of the popular walks, take a wine-tasting tour, or have a relaxing picnic on the shores of the lake.

An unmissable destination in this part of New Zealand is Milford Sound where towering cliffs rise from dark waters and hundreds of waterfalls cascade from great heights. Take in the scenery on a cruise or, if you're feeling adventurous, kayak across the water to fully appreciate its breathtaking beauty.
